Today I’m feeling beachy. The brutal heat here is too much- take me too the water! I want to feel the sand in my toes, hear seagulls squawking, and smell the ocean. I’m dreaming of floating in the ocean, savoring fresh ceviche by the beach, practicing yoga, basking in the sun and doing nothing. I want feel that special blend of exhaustion and satisfaction that comes from a full day spent outdoors. I’m longing to relax, recalibrate, and escape.
I woke up today feeling a heavy sadness in the wake of the horrific shootings murders of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and the Dallas police officers who were shot while on duty protecting peaceful protesters. If you haven’t watched the shocking video that Mr.Castile’s girlfriend recorded on her phone while sitting in the car next to his wounded body (herfour-year-old daughter in the back seat), you need to. The unfair treatment of black people by police is real, unacceptable, and must be stopped. All of the victims, black and white, have families who need them, love them, and will miss them. All of their lives mattered.
